Mewtwo Returns DVDStory:In a remote part of the Johto region, a group of genetically-enhanced Pokémon live in seclusion. Team Rocket is very interested in this area-because one of those Pokémon is Mewtwo. Mewtwo: That would be me. Anyway, with their special agent, Domino, Team Rocket sets up a trap of monumental proportions to catch our hero. Can Mewtwo stop them before they cause permanent harm? Extras:
-French Language Track I don't normally comment here, but I must say that this disc is amazing, despite an apparent lack of features. Not only are we reminded of the sheer ferocity of Team Rocket, but it actually makes the viewer think. Mewtwo: And in your case, Steve, well, you could use to think a little more.
Hmmmph! At any rate, the only thing that keeps this disc from scoring in the 3.9+ range is a lack of extras. Hopefully this will be remedied in time for the multi-disc Mewtwo gift set (hint, hint, Kids' WB). 3.7 (out of 4) Gameplay: Well, the menus really still do some stuff. Graphics:Well, the only true graphical fault I could find is that the Subtitles seemed a little rough. 3.6 Music & Sound:The weakest portion of the disc. Stepping down from normal movie standards, this disc is in 2-channel, not 5.1 channel surround. Also, Mewtwo is voiced by a different actor (not a huge deal-as a telepath, Mewtwo could sound like Pee-Wee Herman if he desired). Mewtwo: Why would I want to sound like him? It's just a hypothetical, Mewtwo. Also, 90%+ of the music is recycled (not even remixed) from Pokémon: The First Movie. This wouldn't be so bad, except the music is repeated many times. 2.5 Play Control: Well, the menus are simple enough to navigate. Raw average: 3.3 Tilt average (50%, 25%, 25%): 3.4 My score: 3.7
The Final Say: This is a great DVD. The first time I saw it, I didn't like it much, but now I see that it is masterfully written and a must-own for any Pokémon fan.
