Pokétalk for Sunday October 31st 1999: With 10 days, this is Steven Reich saying happy Halloween and bringing you Pokétalk for Sunday, October 31st. On the TV side, this week was Halloween week, which meant the episodes shown this week were supposed to scare us or something. Ash, of course, won his first battle on the weekend. Next week is badge week, with a full hour in the afternoon. That equals 10 shows, but wit eight badges, that means that once again we'll get a chance to see what I've come to call the "Sabrina Trilogy." Next weekend, we get to see competition for the Kids' WB badge between Gary, Ash, Misty, and Jessie against Kisskilya, Terry McGinnis, Agent Jay, and Superman, respectively. In movie news, the movie itself has been moved from its original release date of November twelfth, to the 10th, as you may have guessed from the show introduction. I'm willing to bet this was the idea all along. After all, what production event could possibly move the release date forward two days? This change will result in people who really want to see the movie going on Wednesday, and normal people on Friday. Only problem is, some people may become disgruntled if they don't know about the change and don't get their card. And in not so good news, this week, a Canadian teenager was stabbed after demanding to have some Pokémon cards returned. He'll live, but that not the point. While I do admit that the cards were what set off this incident, this stabbing occurred at school, and I would like to know how this kid was carrying a concealed weapon. Second, I'd like to remind people that fighting over property is nothing new, only the property is. Finally, it's just a game. It's not personal freedoms, an international boundary, or something actually worth fighting for. We'll be right back. Q: How many ghost Pokémon are there? Ad: Pokémon: The Last Movie Announcer: They're old. Old Ash: Where's my Pokécane? Announcer: They're forgetful. Old Jessie: To protect the world from... from... from. Old Ash: Devastation. Old Jessie: Oh yeah. Announcer: But they're exactly the same as when you first met them. Old James: All right! We finally caught that Pikachu! Now we'll be on the boss' good side! Old Meowth: Just one problem. Old James: What's that? Old Meowth: He's dead. Announcer: Most of them, anyway. Old James: It's just as well, the thing can't put out enough electricity to work a toaster. Announcer: It's lame. Old Jessie: Help! Team Rocket's fallen and can't get up again! Announcer: It's pathetic. Old Misty: When will you pay me back for my bike? Announcer: Kids' WB doesn't give a hoot whether you see Pokémon: The Last Movie. Old Ash: Misty! Help me find my teeth! A: None. They're all Ghost/Poison Pokémon (yes, I realize it was a trick question). Welcome back. This week, TV Guide featured Pokémon on all four of their covers, and had a five-page article explaining the phenomenon. I was only able to acquire three of the covers, due to the popularity of a certain Pokémon. The magazine also featured a puzzle involving Merril, a Pokémon that appears in the upcoming movie. I wonder if it evolves into a Lynch. Next up, I'd like to discuss an interesting new program from pokemonvillage.com. It's a banner program that probably sets a world record of some sort for banner views to banner placements, 1:10. This is, of course, because of the relatively few numbers of initial participants. You know its small when you see your own banner. Some of you listening to this may even have come here from one of those banners. And finally, I'd just like to remind everyone that if you're going out trick-or-treating tonight, be sure have a parent go through all your candy before you eat it. Well, until the next Pokétalk, this is Steven Reich saying, oob!
