Pokétalk for Thursday, August 19, 1999 Hello, this Steven Reich once again welcoming you to Pokétalk, for Thursday, August 19, 1999! In our first story, Nintendo has entered in a deal with quaker and will have several promotions involving Life, Captain Crunch, and those chewy bars (I guess they don't stop he chatter after all). You'll be able to send in two UPCs and shipping and get yourself a watch, which I would no doubt break in no time flat. I remember that during the Waldo promotion way back when, you had to get four UPCs. Hey Ash, I like it! By the way, last Saturday, the top-rated show was not Pokémon, but Nickelodeon's Sponge Bob Square Pants. Then again, Pokémon was a rerun, and it'll probably be number one again then. Besides, Sponge Bob seems to be more like weird in a can than making any attempt to develop characters, something even a children's show has to have to stay on a long time. Also, the most recent (August 23, 1999) Newsweek's Cyberscope, they briefly mention some of the recent Pokémon games it's a really rather short. And now, a word from our sponsor. Ad: Pokémon Snarf Announcer: Get ready for Nintendo's newest Pokémon game, Pokémon Snarf! You'll have to feed all 151 of them, put up with their terrible table manners, and fend off Team Rocket with only a spatula! EGM raves it's the best food game since Burgertime, and Famitsu thinks it's better than eating lard! So be sure to snag Pokémon Snarf today! Gotta (burp)feed em' all! Sounds like fun. In any event, at this time I'd like to discuss the prospect of Pokémon centers in the US. While no announcement has been made as of yet, I'm willing to bet one will be announced within the next few months. As you may know, these are very popular in Japan, and often have large lines behind them, a defect that will hopefully not occur in the US. If and when one of these things does open, I intend to be there, not in the crowd, but in front of it. And finally, rumors are going around that Nintendo's next system will have a game that features 1,000 person multiplayer servers. For some reason, maybe they're on crack, I don't know, some people seem to think this will be a Zelda game. A rather ridiculous idea, considering that Pokémon would be a much better choice. Fortunately, this interpretation of events seems to be prevailing, assuming that such plans in fact exist. This concludes this Pokétalk. So until we meet again, this is Steven Reich saying goodbye.
