Pokétalk for Sunday, December 12th, 1999: Still stuck with the squirrel, this is Pokétalk for Sunday, December 12th, 1999. In our top story, we got a new episode this weekend. You may be wondering, "what's charmander doing in this episode?" Well, this episode originally came slightly after the most infamous episode of all, "Electric Soldier Porygon." After the incident, a block of episodes were taken off, throwing this one into translation limbo. This week's marathon features adults who actually understand Pokémon, and next weekend will give us a set of episodes about everyone's favorite group of fire-types, the chars. This weekend also brought us some very odd carols. The French-speaking province of Quebec is in an uproar over Nintendo's lack of French- translation games in the area. They are demanding Nintendo and Sony release French versions of their games, before they take legal action. Seeing as how this legal action would come to no more than $900, it is doubtful that anything will come of this. And now, Pokébriefs: 1. If you're expecting a Game Boy Color under the tree this holiday season, you may be disappointed. There's a severe shortage, with reports of people trying twenty stores with no luck. 2. Remember that whacked-out minister who said Pokémon is evil? We'll someone interviewed him, and he doesn't know junk about Pokémon. He said that we all have these crystal balls. Yeah, right. 3. Now people who go to Burger King may get a sheet of Pokémon information cards instead of a toy. This is probably because these can be manufactured faster than toys. And that's Pokébriefs. We'll be right back! Q: What does Meowth use to make him smell better? Ad: Where's Weedle? Announcer: From the people who brought you that goofy guy with the striped shirt and bobble hat comes Where's Weedle, the book where you look for, well, Weedle. Search through a dozen varied environments. Where's Weedle, available in bookstores now. Coming soon: Where's Kakuna and Where's Beedrill! A: Shampoo. Even so, I don't think I'll smell him. This week's episode brings up a good point. Is it just me me, or has everyone and their mother saved Santa Claus? Let's see, Jynxes, MIB, numerous elves, Ernest, Rudolph, the Super Mario Bros., a Lawyer, and Tim Allen (although technically, Tim Allen killed Santa). When is Santa gonna be able to defend himself? As soon as Hollywood runs out of ideas, that's when. And now for a new feature here, Pokémon Strategy. This week, I'd like to talk about the most underrated Pokémon type: Normal. You see, normal Pokémon aren't limited to normal attacks. Using TMs, they can learn a large variety of skills. Since normals only have a defensive disadvantage against fighting Pokémon, and offensive against ghost and rock Pokémon, they can fill in for a variety of tasks. If you've got a strategy an want it to be read on-air, send it to yoshi1001@aol.com with the subject "Pokémon Strategy." For now, submissions involving the card game will not be read, but feel free to talk about Pokémon Snap, Pinball, or even Super Smash Bros. Submissions may be edited for content, length, or clarity. Remember, it's yoshi1001@aol.com with the subject "Pokémon Strategy." That ends this Pokétalk. Until next time, this is Steven Reich saying, if you can't name the most famous Reindeer of all, you need help, buddy.
