Pokétalk for Sunday, December 5th, 1999 Excuse me if I'm a little nervous, but there's a squirrel down here. You heard right, a squirrel! Hello, I'm Steven Reich, and this is Pokétalk for Sunday, December 5th 1999! In our top story, this weekend finally brought us a regular episode. This week's marathon? The Pokémon league games, in case you missed them. Next weekend, we get three episodes of Pokémon, and some Kids' WB-themed Christmas carols. You know, if I didn't know better, I'd say someone was stealing my ideas. Anyway, be sure to tune in. In other news, sales figures for Pokémon Gold and Silver have come out from Japan. They're selling about equally, and total sales amount to over a million. As you may remember, Nintendo was limited in cartridges because of the Taiwan quake. Pokémon Gold and Silver features 251 Pokémon, and numerous other features. And now for Pokébriefs 1. Nintendo has delayed Pokémon Card into March. This is probably so they can move their efforts towards Pokémon Stadium. 2. In Connecticut, needy kids my now get help from speeding motorists. How? Instead of money violators may pay their ticket with Pokémon merchandise. The merchandise will then be given to needy children. 3. This week, about a dozen people arrested and nearly $500,000 worth of (had they been real) Pokémon cards were confiscated in Hackensack, New Jersey. The real question though, is why anyone would want to live in a city named Hackensack! 4. A boy was arrested this week after being found with stolen packs of Pokémon cards and $400 from the register. The child apparently waited until the store closed, then was locked in, and called police. And that's Pokébriefs! We'll be right back! Q: What marking does Richie use on his Pokéballs? Ad: Pokémon Winter Car Kit Steve: Dang! My car won't start! Announcer: Sounds like you could use the Pokémon Winter Car Kit! Steve: The Pokémon Winter Car Kit? Announcer: That's right! The Pokémon Winter car kit has everything you need to get going on a cold winter day! Steve: Like what? Announcer: It's got a charmander defroster, a pikachu jump-starter, and if all else fails, you can use the kadabra to teleport to the nearest service station! All this for only $19.95! Steve: Wow! Now all that I need to do is figure out which of them gets to ride shotgun! Announcer: Sorry, can't help you there! The Pokémon Winter Car Kit! Available at all fine Pokémarts! A: Stars. Now for this week's editorial. I'm beginning to think people are reading too much into Pokémon. Universal Pokémon Network's webmaster has been fielding complaints from parents, among them that this weekend's episode, with its Pidgey-Spearow fighting seemed to somehow constitute "gang banging." Give me a break. This kind of thing happens in real life too, you know. Want to try to stop it there? Thing is, life parallels itself on so many levels, it's easy to infer things that aren't really there. With that covered the last poll asked, "Which version of the Pokémon theme do you prefer?" The final tally ended up with a tie, between the TV and 2.B.A. Master versions, with the Billy Crawford movie version far behind. That does it for this Pokétalk. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a squirrel to deal with.
